On November 12th, the first China Lighting Science and Technology Conference, organized by the China Illuminating Engineering Society, was held in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. The opening ceremony was attended by Liu Zhenglei, Chairman of the China Illuminating Engineering Society, Ni Zhiqiang, Vice Chairman of the Suzhou Association for Science and Technology, and Shen Zhidong, Party Secretary of Xiangcheng District, Suzhou. Cui Zhan, Deputy Party Secretary of Changyi District Committee in Jilin City, and leaders from various departments and organizations in Xiangcheng District and Changyi Economic Development Zone also attended the opening ceremony. More than 400 representatives from the China Illuminating Engineering Society, including Vice Chairmen Gao Fei, Yang Chunyu, Su Yaokang, Liu Gang, and Tang Guoqing, as well as invited Vice Chairmen Hao Luoxi, Yao Mengming, and Guan Yong, and Chairman of the Supervisory Board Zhang Baozhou, attended the conference. In addition, representatives from provincial and municipal lighting societies, branch organizations of the China Illuminating Engineering Society, sponsors, research institutes, universities, and enterprises were also present. The opening ceremony was chaired by Vice Chairman Yang Chunyu.
With the theme of "Innovation and Future," this conference focused on hot topics such as basic research, technological innovation, industry-academia collaboration, digitalization, and intelligence. Seventeen keynote reports were presented. Zhang Baozhou, Chairman of the China Illuminating Engineering Society, and Vice Chairmen Su Yaokang, Liu Gang, and Yao Mengming successively presided over the keynote report session.
Tang Guoqing, Vice Chairman of the China Illuminating Engineering Society, Executive General Manager of Mulsanne Group Co., Ltd., and Senior Economist, delivered a report titled "Joining Hands to Open a New Chapter for Lighting in China." He reviewed the history of lighting, from Thomas Edison's invention of the incandescent lamp to the new era of semiconductor lighting, interpreting the connotation and extension of illuminating engineering. He then analyzed the development trends of the lighting industry in the new era, including smart lighting, cultural and tourism lighting, urban landscape lighting, human-centric lighting, ultraviolet lighting, automotive lighting, display lighting, elderly-friendly lighting, medical lighting, and plant lighting. He proposed that lighting practitioners should focus on basic theories, scientific research, and innovative thinking, which are the new missions of lighting professionals in the new era.
Professor Hao Luoxi, Vice Chairman of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE), Vice Chairman of the China Illuminating Engineering Society, and invited Vice Chairman, delivered a report titled "Global Lighting New Concepts, New Technologies, and Chinese Innovation: A Review of the 30th CIE Conference." She systematically introduced the main work, organizational structure, and research contents of the six divisions under the CIE. She also provided a detailed overview of the overall situation, research hotspots, and highlights of the 30th CIE Conference. From a new perspective, she put forward unique insights on global lighting new concepts, new technologies, and discussed the future direction of "Chinese innovation" in the industry.
Zang Feng, Vice Chairman of the China Illuminating Engineering Society, Party Secretary and Chairman of Nanjing Urban Lighting Construction and Operation Group Co., Ltd., delivered a video presentation titled "Technological Leadership, Innovation-Driven." He pointed out that under the current background of deep deployment of national strategies, precise orientation of industrial policies, breakthroughs in technological updates, innovation in scene applications, and the continuous improvement of government management requirements, the essential transformation of the lighting industry has begun. Knowledge update, interdisciplinary integration, and industrial integration have become the new normal for the technological development and progress of the industry. Taking the street lighting in Nanjing as an example, he systematically reviewed its continuous transformation and upgrading, experiencing "three iterations" of the "four forms" of lamp posts, and forming an industrial development pattern of "one core, two levels, three enhancements, four axes, and five networks." He also highlighted the achievements of urban lighting in the new era through technological innovation.
Yao Mengming, Vice Chairman of the China Illuminating Engineering Society, and General Manager of Design and Application Department at Signify (China) Investment Co., Ltd., delivered a report titled "Embracing Light, Embracing Spring: From Low Carbon to Biodiversity Conservation." Starting from the global sustainable development goals, he proposed that the lighting industry should take carbon neutrality and emission reduction measures to improve operational efficiency, strengthen carbon reduction, achieve zero carbon or negative carbon emissions, and promote sustainable development strategies to achieve harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. Furthermore, based on the goals of the United Nations biodiversity conference, he emphasized the importance of protecting species diversity. He discussed the importance of environmental management throughout the entire life cycle of lighting products, deepening environmental protection, reducing light pollution, and jointly building a community with a shared future for humanity.
During the conference, various activities were held, including the fourth session of the eighth council meeting of the China Illuminating Engineering Society, the "Golden Light Night" evening party, the exhibition of new lighting products and technologies, the forum for lighting industry experts and entrepreneurs, and special seminars of branch organizations of the China Illuminating Engineering Society.
